Major League Baseball (MLB) two-hit superstar Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim has had his season cut short due to injury.

The Angels announced today (Nov. 16) that Ohtani has been placed on the 10-day disabled list (IL). Due to his schedule, he will not be able to return during the season.메이저사이트

Ohtani had an unprecedented season as both a pitcher and a hitter. As a pitcher, he appeared in 23 games (132 innings), posting a 10-5 record, 167 strikeouts, a 3.14 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.
As a hitter, he appeared in 135 games, batting .304 (fourth in the American League) with 44 home runs (first), 95 RBI (tied for fourth), 20 doubles and a 1.066 OPS (second). He’s the favorite to win his second American League MVP in 2021.

Ohtani’s season as a pitcher ended in late August when he was diagnosed with ligament damage in his right elbow.

He then turned his attention to hitting, but didn’t take the field until the last five days of pre-game batting practice after complaining of pain in his right side.

Ohtani will likely need to undergo another ligament splicing surgery (Tommy John surgery) on his right elbow to continue pitching. He previously underwent Tommy John surgery in 2018. This time, the injured ligament is not where he had surgery.

Ohtani was expected to become a free agent after this season and become the first player in MLB history to sign a $500 million-plus contract. However, the elbow injury, which will require more than a year of rehabilitation after surgery, will likely reduce the size of his contract.
