‘Woori Card is on a roll!’
Woori Card recorded its fourth consecutive win since the start of the season with a hard-fought 3-2 (19-25 32-34 32-30 25-18 17-15) set victory over Korean Air in the 2023-2024 Dodram V League at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on Friday.
The match was the longest ever played by a men’s team. The previous record was 160 minutes against Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance on Nov. 13 last year.
The first set was dominated by Korean Air. However, the rising Woori Card had a chance to catch up with a series of digs. Kim Ji-han saved a ball that went out of bounds with a foot dig, drawing applause from the fans.
Korean Air senior Yoo Kwang-woo also earned applause from the fans of both teams with his fist in the air as he jumped behind the referee.
After nine deuces in the second set, Woori Card’s Park Jin-woo and Korean Air’s Kwak Seung-seok were seen on the court complaining of leg cramps after the third set. The match had been hard-fought. Woori Card’s Mattei and Han Tae-joon collided while trying to save the ball.
The third set was just as intense. In a game that featured seven deuces, players were often seen lying on the court. Kim Ji-han’s quick opener and Matei’s back-attack winner turned the tide for Woori Card.짱구카지노
In the fourth set, Woori Card made a stronger attack and pushed the match to a fifth set. At 14-13 set point in the fifth set, Woori Card’s Matei made a service error to make it 14-14 deuce.
An error by Han Tae-joon put Korean Air back in front, but Matej regained the lead at 16-15 with back-to-back back-attack attacks, and a block by Han ended the 165-minute battle.
Matej finished with 47 points and a 53.85% attack success rate. Kim Ji-han also had a big smile on his face as he scored 20 points in the come-from-behind victory.
With the win, Woori Card coach Shin Young-cheol became the all-time winningest coach in the V-League men’s and women’s programs with 277 wins. He surpassed former Samsung Fire coach Shin Chi-yong’s 276 wins to become the sole leader in this category.
