Dodram 2023-24 V-League Women’s Media Day at Hotel Rivera Cheongdam on Wednesday. The Asian quota, which will be introduced for the first time this season, was also in attendance.
There are three players in particular that volleyball fans are looking forward to this season. They are Thai setter Ponpun Gedpard (IBK), outside hitter Wipawee Sittong (Hyundai E&C), and outside hitter Thanacha Suksot (Korea Expressway Corporation).
All three players are familiar to Korean fans. They have played against the Korean national team on several occasions and also represented Thailand at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, where they won a bronze medal.
All three players are expected to scratch an itch for their respective teams. Ponpun, ranked No. 1 in Asia, is the starting setter for the Thai national team and will add strength to IBK’s setter lineup. Kim Ha-kyung, Lee Sol-ah, and Kim Yoon-woo could learn from her.
Tanacha and Wipawi are expected on offense. Doosan has a gap in its offensive line after Ju Po Park left for Pepper Savings Bank as a free agent. Hyundai E&C also lost Hwang Min-kyung to IBK, and Jung Jeong-yoon and Ko Yerim are out with injuries. I’m looking forward to seeing what Gong Soo Altoran can do.안전놀이터
We’ve always played together on the same court, but not anymore. They have to fight for the team’s victory between the nets.
“We are all friends,” Tanacha said. We will compete on the court, but we will be friends off the court,” said Tanacha, while Wipawi added: “Now we are competitors. But off the court, of course, we’re going to be close sister and brother,” she laughed. “As my sisters say, we are enemies on the court,” said Ponpun, the eldest of the trio.
This season is more evenly matched than ever before, and the Asian Quarterfinals will be a hot topic of conversation throughout the season. What will be the fate of the Thai trio?
